Artificial intelligence, algorithms, and automation are becoming part of almost every aspect of our lives. They influence the books we read, the art we create and consume, the information we encounter online, and increasingly our work. Important questions are emerging: What happens if readers prefer AI-generated texts to works written by human authors? Should people always know when AI has been used in the writing or translation process? Where do we want AI, and where do we not want it? In this interactive session, we will explore our rights and responsibilities in this age of AI – as readers, writers, and translators. We will discuss legal developments and recent research, examine real-world examples, and reflect on what we want with AI, and don't want, and how to communicate this to others. Join us for an engaging conversation about creativity, technology, fairness, and the futures we want to build. Dr. Ley Muller is the Research and Education Lead of Women in AI Norway, and CEO of Values-driven AI. She works with Norwegian and European organizations to enthusiastically meet the demands for high-quality and ethical AI: bias assessment, making sure stakeholders are heard, and how to know when an AI system isn't the answer. She sits on Standard Norway's national AI committee and is an appointed European expert developing harmonized standards for high-risk AI providers. She works with AI because she cares about people, but her favorite thing to do in the entire world is to read. American, Australian, and Norwegian.
