Wednesday 16 September, 19:00Landmark, Bergen KunsthallFree entrance, you can book tickets in advanceJoin us for a special screening of Al-Sit, the award-winning Sudanese short film by acclaimed filmmaker Suzannah Mirghani. Set in a cotton-farming village in Sudan, Al-Sit follows 15-year-old Nafisa as she navigates the expectations of family, tradition, and her own desires. Through the imposing figure of her grandmother, Al-Sit, the film offers a powerful and nuanced exploration of women's agency, generational authority, and social change. The event is presented in collaboration with the University of Bergen within the framework of "Anarchiving the Bergen Sudan Collection," an initiative exploring how archives can be reactivated and reimagined through contemporary Sudanese artistic practices. The project draws inspiration from the Anarchiving Sudan initiative, which interrogates memory, heritage, loss, and creative resistance in relation to Sudan's past and present.Following the screening, Suzannah Mirghani will join online for a conversation about her work and the role of art in times of profound crisis in Sudan. The discussion will be enriched by the presence of Mariasole Pepa (University of Padua) who is behind the Anarchiving Sudan Initiative and the participating artists of the Anarchiving the Bergen Sudan Collection project, Israa El-Kogali, Khalid Albaih, and Abdalla Eltayeb.Everyone is welcome to an evening of cinema, conversation, and Sudanese creativity at the intersection of art, politics, and the archives. Instagram: @suzannahmirghani
